Alhambra Unified Superintendent, Denise R. Jaramillo, and the AUSD Board of Education announce the launch of their Community Conversations Series to provide an intimate digital forum to connect with students, parents, staff, and community members during a school year like no other we have ever experienced. Each Conversation is scheduled for a Thursday from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm and will be limited to 25 participants to keep the group small enough to listen to, learn from, and engage with. The first series dates will be September 10 September 24, October 1, October 15, and October 22. The Community Conversations will continue throughout the 2020-21 school year with more dates upcoming. RSVP is through a link on the homepages of every school site and the District AUSD website (www.ausd.us) or by clicking on this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf7cC1hQHtlZwgsmudkrsJTc7NNGkjZGDrxfJL2x7WQw1qEdQ/viewform “With the continuing upheaval during a pandemic year, we want to create a welcoming place to listen — to have conversations about what matters most to our AUSD community,” Superintendent Jaramillo said. “We want to harness our connective strength to better navigate the changes we all face to stay safe while we develop the best possible education infrastructure for our students.” Board of Education President, Patricia Rodriguez-Mackintosh, adds, “We want our Community Conversations to become a way to problem-solve together and a place to share the unexpected silver linings that have emerged out of the COVID-19-induced hardships.” Both the Superintendent and the Board of Education agree that this historic time can be a catalyst for positive changes the District will carry into the future. As Superintendent Jaramillo points out, “One silver lining we are thrilled to see is the level of parent involvement -- which has increased by 500%.” Some possible topics of conversation for the series include delivering the parent support you want, building and modeling a culture of respect and inclusion, ensuring students have the support to flourish, supporting special education parents, and developing programs to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of our community. Participants are invited to suggest topics when they RSVP.

2020 Census deadline is fast approaching (Sept. 30). The census is census survey is counted every 10 years and it's real important. The result from the 2020 census will be used to determine the number of seats each state in Congress and your political representation of all levels of government. Also, your response helps to direct billions of dollars in federal funds to local communities for schools, roads, and other public services. Let's count everyone in every home to make sure we have the housing, nutrition, hospitals and educational services we need in San Gabriel Valley! Alhambra city response rate now is 73.8%, let's aim for 100%! Here's a good resource to learn more about census and they offer in Spanish: https://wecountla.org/ You can go to https://my2020census.gov to fill out survey online or call at 1-844-330-2020
